Tesla’s recent “We, Robot” presentation has sparked legal trouble, with Blade Runner 2049 production company, Alcon Entertainment, suing both Tesla and its CEO, Elon Musk, for copyright infringement. The October 10 event, held at Warner Bros. Discovery Studios, featured Tesla’s new Cybercab, Robovan, and an update on its Optimus humanoid robot.
Alcon claims that Tesla used generative AI and images from Blade Runner 2049 without permission, despite a last-minute request for authorization, which was denied. The production company cited concerns over Musk’s controversial behavior and did not want to associate the film with him or his companies. Following the rejection, Tesla is accused of generating a Blade Runner-inspired image with AI, which was displayed during the presentation.
Musk referenced Blade Runner 2049 during the event, linking it to his vision of the future, but Alcon remains firm in its lawsuit, accusing Tesla of copyright violation. As of now, Tesla and Musk have yet to respond publicly to the lawsuit, and the amount of damages sought by Alcon is unclear.
