HTC’s newly announced Vive Focus Vision headset, priced significantly lower than the $1,119 Vive XR Elite and Meta’s Quest Pro, enters the market at $1,000 less. Unveiled on Wednesday, this new device is larger than its predecessor but still aims to compete with top-tier headsets like Apple’s Vision Pro, Microsoft’s HoloLens, and the Magic Leap 2. It offers mixed reality capabilities, providing both VR and AR experiences, and is designed for a broad range of users, from gamers to enterprise professionals.
HTC, much like Magic Leap, recognizes the lucrative potential of the enterprise sector, especially as Meta’s Quest series has solidified its hold on the casual consumer market. However, the Vive Focus Vision also caters to PC gamers, offering DisplayPort connectivity for seamless, high-quality VR experiences.
“Vive Focus Vision delivers exceptional standalone performance while also supporting DisplayPort for a lossless PCVR experience,” said Shen Ye, Global Head of Product at HTC. “With this headset, PC gamers can enjoy the same advanced technology found in VR arcades, but now at home. We’re elevating the experience with features like built-in eye tracking, stereo color passthrough for precise mixed reality, and enhanced hand tracking with an infrared sensor for low-light environments.”
The Vive Focus Vision packs a wide array of features, including built-in eye tracking, dual 16-megapixel cameras for color passthrough, depth sensing, and a 5K resolution display. The headset boasts a 120-degree field of view and supports up to a 120Hz refresh rate. To support intensive PCVR sessions, HTC has upgraded the cooling system and included a backup battery that provides continuous power during battery swaps.
Preorders open Wednesday, with shipping expected to begin in mid-October.
