One of the most important things Windows 10 adds is to split-screen multitasking is Snap Assist, which makes it easier to choose an open application window when you are deciding how to arrange the windows on your screen.
Use it like this:
Step 1: Select the window you want to snap to one half of the screen and move it to the edge.
Step 2: If you have other windows or programs open when you snap the window you want to move, you’ll see a list of options for the second half. When you click on one, it will snap into place next to the first window. If you don’t, and the selection grid goes away, move your second window to the edge of the empty space.
Step 3: To change the size of the two windows, move the cursor over the line that separates them until it changes into two arrows. Click and hold on the line between the two windows to move them around. There is a limit to how small a window can be, though.
Another method to split screen:
Go to Start > Settings > System > Multitasking to enable this option. Snap Windows can be turned on by selecting the toggle next to it, however it should be enabled by default. To see more possibilities, select Snap Windows.
For Windows 11 split screen
Hover your cursor over the Maximize icon in the upper-right corner of Windows 11 to choose from a variety of snap window layouts.
For Windows 8 user’s
With Windows 8 and 8.1, Microsoft believed that the majority of consumers would use a touchscreen device. If you have a touchscreen, you can utilize the snap feature to place two windows on the screen at once. Otherwise, a mouse should be used.
To use split screen in Windows 8.1, follow these steps:
Two or more windows and/or apps should be open.
Place your mouse at the top of one of the windows in an empty spot. Drag the window to the left side of the screen by holding down the left mouse button for a long time. Move it all the way over to the other side, as far as you can.
Snap that window to the left side of the screen by releasing the mouse button.
To snap to the right side of the screen, select any of the other windows.
To resize the windows, drag the dividing line. Only one screen is resized at a time when you change the line between the windows or apps, not both as in Windows 11 and 10.
Windows 7 split screen
The Snap function was first introduced in Windows 7, and it should be turned on by default. To put two windows side by side in Windows 7, do the following:
Two windows should be opened.
Place your mouse at the top of any open window in an empty area. Drag the window to the left half of the screen by holding down the left mouse button for a long time.
Let go of the mouse. Half of the screen will be taken up by the window.
Rep Step 2 with the second window, dragging it to the right side of the screen before letting go of the mouse. The window will take up half of the screen on the right side.
