Google Search Smarter, Not Harder: Three New Chrome Features for a Better Browsing Experience

Google has unveiled three enhancements in the latest version of Chrome, aiming to enhance the browser’s search capabilities. The updates include search suggestions influenced by others’ queries, expanded images for suggested searches, and the ability to receive search suggestions even in areas with poor network connectivity.

In the “People also search for” section of the Google search box on the new tab page, users will now find a brief list of searches made by others who explored similar topics. For instance, if several people searched for “Star Trek” and subsequently looked up “Spock,” that suggestion may appear on the side.

Moreover, Chrome on iOS and Android devices will now exhibit multiple images in search suggestions during typing, particularly for broader shopping categories and products based on simpler searches.

Additionally, Chrome on iPhone, iPad, and Android can now provide search suggestions even in low-network conditions. Although the exact mechanism is not detailed, it is likely to involve auto-complete suggestions similar to a virtual keyboard, bypassing the need to query Google’s servers for suggestions with each keystroke. This functionality is also extended to searches conducted in Incognito Mode.

Chrome search features

These updates follow Google’s recent incorporation of AI-related features in Chrome, such as the “Help me write” function in Chrome 122, which transforms draft text into more polished writing. Chrome 121 introduced AI-driven tab group organization and new tab page themes generated from text prompts.

While Google asserts that these features are available starting today, some users may experience a delay before the server-side switch is enabled for their devices.
