Gmail Q&A Feature Now Available for iOS Users with Google’s Gemini Chatbot

Google has expanded its AI-powered Gemini chatbot to select iOS users, allowing them to chat with the assistant directly within their Gmail app. This feature, known as Gmail Q&A, was initially introduced to Android users in August and is now available for iOS users who are Google One AI Premium subscribers or Google Workspace accounts with certain Gemini add-ons, such as Business, Enterprise, Education, or Education Premium.

The Gmail Q&A feature assists users in managing their inboxes more efficiently by answering specific questions, such as “How much was spent on the last marketing event?” Users can also ask the Gemini chatbot to show unread messages from specific senders or summarize emails related to a topic, like requesting a recap of emails about “quarterly planning.”

At present, the feature is limited to searching information within your inbox, but Google plans to expand its capabilities to include content from Google Drive in the future. Although the traditional Gmail search bar will remain, the new Gemini button will appear next to it, encouraging users to leverage AI to find information more quickly and intuitively.

This feature is currently aimed at premium subscribers, and it’s unlikely to become available to free Gmail users in the near future. Google is focusing on marketing tools like Gmail Q&A as part of its strategy to drive revenue through subscriptions.

Google has been integrating AI into its broader product lineup, including Google Docs, Gmail, and Calendar, as part of a larger effort to keep its products competitive. This expansion comes shortly after Gmail introduced updated “summary cards,” which help users better organize their inboxes by offering features like package tracking, flight check-ins, bill reminders, and more.

With these innovations, Google is positioning itself to compete with Apple, which recently added several Gmail-like features to its Mail app in iOS 18.
